These are some frequently asked questions, FAQ’s that we have received from our customers.
What areas do you service?
Is Pest Control Safe?
Yes. Not all pest control treatments use chemicals and sprays. Depending on the pest and the situation, we are able to use methods that include things such as physical changes to the environment, trapping and environmentally friendly treatment methods.
When we need to use pesticides, we will select formulations and baits with the lowest toxicity available and apply these products directly where pests are breeding and living. This avoids unnecessary application or overuse of these products and minimises any impact on people and pets.
We do recommend that children with allergies should not be exposed to pesticides and pregnant mums should avoid pesticides during their first trimester.
If you have any concerns about your pest control service, speak with your technician before they commence work at your home. Your technician will address any concerns you may have and use the most appropriate treatment method for your situation.
What happens if I have asthma or I’m allergic or sensitive to chemicals?
The safety of you and your family is our number one priority. Depending on the pest, there may be different techniques we can use to control pests. These include the placement of products in out of the way places, environmental changes and non-chemical products.
If you or any member of your family suffers from asthma or is sensitive to chemicals, please let us know and we will tailor a solution to suit your situation.
Is pest control environmentally friendly?
Our goal is to help protect the environment while providing pest control services for our clients.
As part of our commitment, the products we use are all scientifically tested and designed to have no adverse effects on a person’s health and have minimal impact on the natural environment.
Is pest control safe for pets?
Your technician can provide you with a checklist of what needs to be done before we treat your property. This includes the temporary removal of pets from the home, (or at least from the treatment area). After the service, your technician will advise you when your property is safe for your pets to re-enter.
Other pest management methods may also be recommended as required such as tick and flea treatments for pets. Contact your Vet for advice on the best product to use.
Where do you treat pests at homes?
This will depend on the type of pest active at the time. Our treatments are focused on the places that pests live and breed in. Internal treatments are kept well away from contact with you. If you have any concerns, speak with your technician before we commence work at your property. External treatments are typically done around the perimeter of the property and areas where pests and living.
Do I need to empty the kitchen cupboards?
The only thing we ask you to remove and cover are open food packets or containers. Our techniques are designed to target specific areas and we use special covers where required. If you have any concerns, speak with our team when you make your booking and we advise you on other alternatives.
How long do I have to wait before I can go inside or outside after the service?
This depends on the type of pests being treated. Typically, you don’t have to leave the property and your technician will advise you when you can re-enter.
Once any liquid treatment has dried it is safe to enter that area. When we apply external spray pesticides, your technician will ask you to close all windows and external doors. For internal treatments that involve applying a fine mist pesticide, such as flea treatments, you will be required to leave the property for a short period of time.
My home is clean, why do I still have pests around?
Just like us, pests need food, shelter and water and are determined to find it no matter how clean your home is.
Your technician can advise you on effective steps you can take to minimise or eliminate pests from your property such as removing their food sources and sealing gaps in window frames and doors and trimming trees close to the roof.
What should I do if I see a pest and don’t know what type it is?
Some pests appear innocent while others are highly aggressive and can strike with nasty consequences. If you discover a pest and are unsure of what it is, contact the team at SafeHouse Pest Control.
It is best to stay away from certain pests and don’t spray them with chemicals as this can make them aggressive and may result in a painful sting or bite. If you or your family suffer a sting or bite, follow these steps:
- Wash with soap and water and apply an antiseptic if available.
- Apply a cold pack to reduce local pain and swelling.
- If the victim is a child or a person who is known to suffer allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, seek urgent medical attention – call 000.

What should I do if I find termites at my property?
The sight of termites at your property can be a worrying experience. If you notice termites at your home, follow these initial steps:
- Don’t disturb them and if possible try to put things back the way they were.
- Don’t panic – termites will not cause major damage overnight.
- Don’t try to spray them or use other chemicals on them. This will have a very limited effect and can scare them off making it more difficult for a technician to assess the situation.
- Contact us to arrange a termite inspection by a qualified timber pest technician.
How often should I get pest control done?
We recommend that you have a professional pest inspection every 12 months.
Prevention is always better than cure and typically damage caused by pests is not covered by your home insurance.
A termite inspection should also be done every 12 months to monitor their activity before it becomes a bigger issue.
What is your service warranty?
If pests return to your home, we will return to treat the pest.
Why can’t I just DIY pest control?
Pest control products purchased from hardware stores or supermarkets are typically expensive and have little or no effect on many different types of pests.
Our treatments are designed to use products that have been specifically researched and tested to be effective on particular pest species. We will target pests using the right treatments or natural solution to stop the pests breeding.
Do I need to prepare for treatment?
Our team will discuss any preparation that may be required before our visit. We may request that you do a couple of things to help us get easy access to the sites we are planning to treat. It can depend on what type of treatment is being applied and whether it is inside or outside of the house.
It is different in every case and we prefer to discuss this with as part of the quoting process after we have had an opportunity to complete an inspection however rest assured, you won’t be needing to pull out the dishwasher or move the fridge.

What are your operating hours?
Our standard operating hours are between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday. We do have a number of commercial clients on the Gold Coast and can discuss treatments outside of the business operating hours on request to reduce any business disruption.
